The press conference kicks off with the legendary Michael Cole strutting in, looking sharp as always: a total guarantee, I’d say! And how about Pat McAfee? Always a riot, he does his job so well it’s like he’s getting paid for it or something! Then The Miz shows up, and it’s a bummer he doesn’t have a match at SummerSlam. But as the host, he’s got his own vibe; we’ve seen him do this before at WrestleMania. He gives a shout-out to Cleveland, his hometown. Maybe one day I’ll feel that kind of attachment to mine, but I’m not counting on it too much! I’ve already traveled all over Italy, and while Sicily totally stole my heart, it’s hard to say!
Triple H, as the creative director, has taken WWE to stratospheric levels. Not that it wasn’t already awesome, but the Attitude Era was pure spectacle, with athletes who are real athletes, capital A. I never would’ve thought it: you think you’ve seen it all, and then bam! Triple H keeps surprising us at every show and main event. The water scene with McAfee? Genius! “I might be the creative director now, but I’m still a wrestler at heart” – what a great way to highlight his roots! Way to go, Triple H, now let’s get to the real topics!
Michael Cole jumps back into talking about Cleveland and gets in a little healthy promotion for the main event merch! I don’t know about you, but I’d love to be in Cleveland to grab all the stuff and see them live. Man, that’d be a dream! And how cool would it be to snap pics with the wrestlers? Awesome!
Liv Morgan makes her entrance, and she’s starting strong! She talks about her shoulder injury from Rhea Ripley that took everything away from her. But did it really take everything? Looking at Dominik, it doesn’t seem like it; he’s right back wagging his tail around Mami! Sure, there are rumors Liv and Finn Balor are teaming up to take down the Judgment Day. It’ll be interesting to see if Dominik sides with Liv or stays loyal to Rhea. I’m rooting for Dominik to betray; that’d spice up the storyline! But no showdown with Rhea at the kickoff, she practically dips out right away!
Damian Priest kicks off his promo, flashing back to the past and present: the Money in the Bank win and cashing in on Drew McIntyre. Then it’s Gunther’s turn to come out, remembered as the General, the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion. I don’t know, he seems way too German and stiff. He’s a solid athlete, but his communication? Needs some work! And his arrogance doesn’t help either. You can already sense he thinks he’s the champ, huh? Go Damian Priest!
Michael Cole tries to change the subject, but Gunther, with his usual arrogance, doubles down on what he said on Raw, calling Damian “street trash” like the Cleveland crowd. Gunther doesn’t hold back: “I chose the streets, while Damian is just street trash!” Didn’t like that one bit! He keeps dissing the crowd, calling them the same! Michael Cole, with a tactical move, tries to steer the convo back to a more technical angle but fails! Gunther declares he’s the future champion! Actually, he’s sure of it!
Cole introduces Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley as the current Women’s Champion, but was that a slip-up or a hint of what’s to come? The crowd goes wild! Damian snaps back at Gunther, saying he’s the definition of “human trash.” Awesome! If we’re street trash, I’m proud to be it! He’s won it all! That’s how you deal with arrogant jerks!
Then the hosts ask Rhea why Dominik Mysterio isn’t around. She didn’t want to bring him! When asked about her strategy against Liv tomorrow, Rhea brutally says Liv’s just a weakling who didn’t have the guts to face her. Gotta admit, she’s got a point! It would’ve been cool to see a little back-and-forth between the two before SummerSlam!
When Rhea declares her “love” for her Latin Heat, the crowd goes nuts singing Jey Uso’s entrance, and Damian gets a good laugh out of it! Hilarious! Even though Rhea’s all about that “love” for her Latino Heat, something feels off. Let me know if you’re team Rhea with Dominik or team Rhea with Jey Uso! Personally, I’d love to see Rhea Ripley with Jey Uso! That could have some real potential!
Rhea reminds everyone even Michael Cole thinks she’ll be Women’s World Champion again. And he’s right; she’s never lost the belt; she just had to vacate it! Here’s hoping!
Now we’re diving into the feud between the Scottish Warrior and CM Punk. The legendary Seth “Freakin’” Rollins enters as the special referee! This is gonna be a blast! Cole asks if he’s the right choice to ref since he hates both guys. Seth dodges: “It’ll be a match with my rules, Rollins’ Rules!” I can only imagine what’s in store! I can already see the next match between Rollins and CM Punk!
CM Punk rolls in, saying he doesn’t care about the rules. He’s always had beef with Drew, and tomorrow he’ll be the one taking the L! Can he pull it off? Even with Seth Freakin’ Rollins in the mix? Drew McIntyre walks in wearing his kilt! And as usual, Rollins shows off some wild outfits! (Quick side note: only Seth Rollins can pull off outfits like that and still look like a total stud!)
When Drew’s asked what kind of match it’ll be, he simply promises violence and says Seth will have to stop the match for too much violence! Cole throws in a solid question: it’s not just Punk’s fault he doesn’t have the title; it’s also Drew’s for getting distracted. McIntyre promises that won’t happen again.
The press conference wraps up with Punk making a jab at Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, who are busy waving goodbye to the crowd, saying he’s dressed up because you wear that to funerals, and it’s gonna be McIntyre’s funeral! This match is definitely one you don’t wanna miss!
